What Exactly Is Cellulite?

The issue known as cellulite manifests as the dimpling found on the skin of the buttocks and the thighs. This change in the skin of these areas occurs because of a problem with the layer of connective tissue beneath it.

For the most part, this fibrous tissue, which tethers the skin layers to the muscle tissue, is arranged differently for men and women. Men often have a diagonal or cross-hatched fibrous tissue pattern, which lays flat against the muscle tissues. Many women, on the other hand, have vertical fibrous connective tissue, which is more susceptible to cellulite formation.

The skin is anchored to parts of the muscle using these vertical bands of tissue, which are known as septae. Small pockets of fat develop in these areas to cause the appearance of cellulite. Women often have thinner skin, further emphasizing the underlying bumps. Over 80% of post-adolescent women have cellulite. Men have it less frequently.

Surprisingly, though many assume weight problems are the main cause of cellulite, there is no one cause for the issue. Diet and lack of exercise may not be the problem. Some factors that can contribute to the look of cellulite in the skin include fluctuations in hormones, lifestyle choices, and the genes.

When a person is experiencing cellulite on their thighs or buttocks, they may experience self-consciousness and embarrassment, particularly when wearing bathing suits and other outfits that show skin.

Exercise is frequently unable to correct cellulite. Most of the other cellulite treatments on the market, including topical solutions, are also frequently unsuccessful.

If you want your skin to look smooth, beautiful, and firm again, it’s time to consider the Cellfina treatment system.

The Science Behind Cellfina

Cellfina™ combines highly advanced proprietary technology with a well-established procedure approach called “subcision” to treat the structural problems that cause cellulite. This innovative solution is a safe and effective method to treat cellulite with precise and reproducible results, in just one treatment.

The key is that this approach has a specialized hand piece that allows it to precisely access tissue. Cellfina™ is classified as a minimally invasive treatment, as it involves a small subcision device to access the cellulite-causing bands. Combined with the vacuum-assisted approach, the treatment is precise and effective.

The Procedure

Before the Cellfina advanced automated treatment procedure begins, the physician will use a marker to mark the cellulite-dimpled treatment areas on the patient’s thighs and/or buttocks. Once these spots are demarcated, the skin in these regions is suctioned to the device. The targeted areas are smoothed out and made taut with the aid of a suction-stabilizer; this also has the effect of stretching the septae to a position where they can be most easily treated.

Following this step, a local anesthetic known as lidocaine is administered to the target areas in order to numb the skin before treatment, making the procedure more comfortable and easy for the patient. The physician then uses the pocket-sized Cellfina hand piece on the taut regions, which reaches down to precisely cut through and separate the septae, relaxing the area. This is subcision.

The Cellfina subcision process is quite efficient. In only one hour, the machine is able to address 25 dimpled cellulite areas.

How long does the procedure take?

The in-office procedure takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on the individual patient and the number of areas being treated.

Will I need to take time off?

There is limited downtime associated with Cellfina. Some patients experience initial soreness and tenderness, but these side effects resolve quickly with time. Taking up to 24 hours to allow your body to recover from the procedure is often ideal, though it is not always necessary.

How much does the Cellfina treatment cost?

This is dependent on the number of cellulite dimples and other factors. Since the treatment is so personalized, the best way to get an accurate quote is to set up a free consultation.
